Experimental synth-pop duo Marina Zispin—Bianca Scout and Martyn Reid—share their highly anticipated 10-track album, Now You See Me (Now You Don’t) on March 7 via the influential London/NY-based imprint Scenic Route.
Following acclaim from BBC 6 Music, Resident Advisor, METAL, Pitchfork, The Line of Best Fit, Dummy, and Boomkat, the album delves deeper into the duo’s signature themes of life, death, and liminality, weaving surreal storytelling through lush, melancholic soundscapes.
“Now You See Me (Now You Don’t) is a continuation of our evolving fantasy sound world, ” the band states. “As with our previous EP, themes of life and death loom heavily over these 10 tracks—from the skeletal rhythms and disembodied vocals of ‘Death Must Come’ to the unsettling pastoral dark ambient of the closing track, ‘The Scythe.’”
The album traverses a wide sonic terrain: the hypnotic MZ synth-pop of ’Deep Blue’ and ‘Penthouse Samba’ , the heightened gothic drama of ‘The Tudors’ , the unrelenting tension of ’Piece of Mind’ , and the cold-wave stylings of ‘Mimes Calling in the Dark’ . A labyrinth of sound, Now You See Me (Now You Don’t) invites listeners into a world of shifting perspectives, leaving more questions than answers—just as Marina Zispin prefers it.
Marina Zispin – ‘Deep Blue’
Since forming in 2018 between Newcastle and London, Marina Zispin has drawn audiences into their hypnotic, shape-shifting world, blending ethereal melodies with avant-garde textures. Their 2023 debut 12” on Night School led to a UK tour, a BBC 6 Music session, and a standout performance at Bucharest’s Collisions festival.
Bianca Scout—whose solo album Pattern Damage earned praise from The Quietus, DJ Mag, Resident Advisor, Pitchfork, Stereogum, Bandcamp, and The Wire—continues to push sonic boundaries, merging sound collage, post-punk, and poetic lyricism. Recent performances across Europe, including at Poland’s Unsound Festival, further solidify the duo’s growing influence.
With Now You See Me (Now You Don’t), Marina Zispin invites listeners into a dreamlike sonic landscape where reality dissolves into fantasy. Vinyl pre-orders are available now.
