NADIA REID shares new single ‘Not Giving It Out’

Fresh from Glastonbury and soon to appear at Green Man, Nadia Reid returns with Not Giving It Out’ – a luminous, slow-burning reflection on love, identity, and quiet resistance. Rooted in Dunedin’s North East Valley, it’s both a personal love song and a statement of artistic self-possession.

“I see this song in two parts. It’s an ode to the streets where I did some formative growing; it’s about the joy and complexity of domestic life — the mundane moments, the quiet truths: ‘We are but a bird in flight.’

The latter part was written as a kind of riff — a response to a nasty review by a renowned NZ ‘music journalist.’ He’d offended many of my peers, myself included… So the last line is dedicated to him, and more broadly, to anyone who makes a habit of pulling others down. ‘Write what you like about me (buddy), I’m not giving it out no more’

When I think about the music industry right now, I often imagine a candle. The success of others — my peers doing well — is like lighting more and more candles. It’s endless. There’s room for everyone.”

Not Giving It Out is for fans of Sharon Van Etten, Big Thief, and songs that say more than they shout.

Enter Now feels different. It is an album, she says, of departure and questioning, that has reminded her how songwriting can be “the most useful thing to do with pain and joy and thoughts and feelings and anger.” That through music we can find great change. “I’m so much better off now that it exists,” she says. “Now feels like a new time.”

Enter Now Brightness was recorded between 2021 and 2023 in Dunedin and Auckland, New Zealand.
