In the spirit of NZ Music Month electro-dark-pop vocalist/producer Lola, shares a performance video of her latest track ‘Portal’. The single was initially released early April from this emerging Tāmaki Makaurau based artist and embraced by alternative radio across the motu with bFMs breakfast host Rachel Ashby gushed “there is a first impression, then there so much depth to what’s being created, it’s a very well realised world.”
Filmed and directed by Milly Bossley Hoyte at Drake Street Studios Lola performs alongside ‘Portal’ co-producer Carly Gill (half of electronic-duo Kédu Carlö) and Tiare Kelly (Benee, Erny Belle and Marlin’s Dreaming).

Lola’s collaborators showcase ancient instruments: Carly on the Egyptian goblet drum, Doumbek, tracing its roots back to early civilisations like Babylonia and Sumer. Tia on the sitar, a mediaeval plucked stringed instrument celebrated for its meditative essence, originating from the Indian subcontinent.
Lola explains, “I wanted to lean into the Middle Eastern influence further in the live version of the track, hence the use of doumbek/darbuka (Carly) and sitar (Tia). We embody three ghostly figures, drifting over the portal of light behind us.”
On June 28th, Lola will unveil her follow up release ‘True’, a gritty dance track laced with soul-snatching hooks. ‘True’ marks a bold expansion for Lola, delving deeper into the realms of electronica while retaining her signature raw energy and authenticity.
