Phoebe Bridgers today shared the music video for ‘Killer,’ a song featured on her acclaimed 2017 debut album, Stranger In The Alps, as well as the first song she ever released as an acoustic version in 2015. Filmed last summer in Joshua Tree, CA, the Gus Black-directed clip can now be viewed HERE. “I thought this location was visually perfect for Phoebe’s performance,” says Black. “The fact that it happened to be an abandoned tuberculosis asylum was convenient.” Stranger In The Alps is available now via Dead Oceans, in both standard and deluxe digital formats.
Bridgers’ ‘Killer’ video is the culmination of a breakthrough two years for the young Los Angeles songwriter that began with the release of her January 2017 single, ‘Smoke Signals,’ which led NPR Music to declare “2017’s Best New Artist Might Just Be Phoebe Bridgers.” That proclamation proved prescient, as she signed to Dead Oceans within a few months and released Stranger In The Alps the following September. The album – produced by Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska, and mixed by Mike Mogis – was among 2017’s most-heralded, earning spots on year-end lists includingThe FADER (‘#1 Best New Artist of 2017’), Noisey, Bandcamp, and Uproxx, in addition to catching praise from Pitchfork, NPR Music (‘Tiny Desk Concert’), Billboard, Vulture, Stereogum, The A.V. Club, NY Mag’s Vulture, The Los Angeles Times, and W Magazine, among many others.
Bridgers began 2018 by making her morning TV debut on CBS This Morning – alongside a sit-down interview – and shortly thereafter performed on Live from Here with Chris Thile. She remained at a whirlwind pace from there, spending the majority of this year selling out headline shows throughout North America, Europe, and the UK; opening for artists including The National, The War On Drugs, Sylvan Esso, and Conor Oberst; and performing at festivals including Newport Folk, Sasquatch, Xponential, and Winnipeg Folk. This fall alone, Bridgers landed on the cover of The FADER’s Fall Fashion issue, won the AIM Award for International Breakthrough Of The Year, made her late night TV debut on Conan, and released the deluxe digital reissue of Stranger In The Alps. She then capped off 2018 by co-headlining a North American tour with Julien Baker (with Lucy Dacus opening), in addition to releasing a celebrated self-titled EP (Matador Records) with Baker and Dacus as their trio, boygenius, which also performed on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
