Today, Long Island NY based duo poptropicaslutz!  share their ambitious debut EP ‘just in case the world ends’ via Epitaph Records, mixed by Matt Malpass (Blink 182, MGK.)  Not only their debut for Epitaph, it marks the first collection of music the band has released since forming during the pandemic. They also drop focus track this might be our last december” featuring ethereal guest vocals from Canadian DIY artist 8485. This collaboration is the embodiment of the intersection of pop-punk and hyper-pop that the band is known for.

Fusing genres for a fresh concoction of “hyper-punk,” poptropicaslutz! refuse to be anything but authentically themselves. Throughout the 7 tracks on just in case the world ends, Nick Crawford and Christian Cicillia explore their inspirations to the fullest, with a no-holds-barred approach to making music.

“‘Just In Case The World Ends’ is a project that started during the global pandemic, as poptropicaslutz! was forming, and the “end of the world” didn’t seem so farfetched,” the duo explains. “We thought about what album we’d make if it was our last chance to make one.”

The EP is led by a string of animated music videos by Rob Fidel. Visually, poptropicaslutz! wanted to tell a story of “three little pigs who yearned for the power to stop the sun from setting.” The 3-part cartoon series follows the mishaps of a group of evil genius pigs with mohawks who desperately search for a way to fly.

On ‘just in case the world ends,’ classic pop-punk song structure is modernized with sparkly synths, then grounded by extremely self-aware lyrics and romantic themes. Track such as “lackluster at best, a masterpiece at worst” change up this formula for a more “Punk Goes Acoustic” approach, where the ballad boasts diary-like lyrics backed by a swell of cinematic strings. “hysteria is impossible without an audience” starts out with the duo’s sweet-sounding vocals and then takes a cue from the emo side of things, closing out with some impassioned screamo.

poptropicaslutz! is an authentic emo-pop group for generation Z. Their genuine lyrics and emotional tracks have earned them two spots on Spotify’s coveted New Music Friday, and already you’ll find hundreds of kids at their sold out shows waiting in line for merch and begging for photos with the band.
