London-based dance-pop icon Romy returns with a new single and music video, ‘Love Who You Love.’ The track serves as a symbolic closing chapter to Mid Air – her bold 2023 debut solo album exploring the intimacy of queer love and self-discovery. Produced by BloodPop, Romy, and Jamie xx, ‘Love Who You Love’ is a labor of love having been in Romy’s care since 2020. It’s a powerful message of liberation, one that feels more vital than ever. The single arrives alongside a music video starring Romy and directed by her creative and life partner, Vic Lentaigne.
Romy explains, “My new song Love Who You Love is a proudly queer love song. It was also really important to me to acknowledge that the world is STILL such a challenging place for so many of us to show our love openly in the LGBTQ+ community. In reaction to that I wanted to write a song that not only celebrates and uplifts love as well as calls for change. The history of resilience and togetherness in the face of unbelievable challenges within the community is so powerful. Personally, finding friends, family and people I look up to and learn from – through queer clubbing has made me feel so much less alone and braver in so many aspects of life. These experiences and the people I’ve met, continue to be so inspiring to the music I’m making and this song intends to be a love letter of visibility and pride. No one can take the love you feel away from you — it’s yours.”

Two years on from her acclaimed, GRAMMY- and BRIT-nominated debut album Mid Air, Romy continues to cement her status as a vital figure in contemporary dance music. From her beloved Club Mid Air series to sold-out headline shows and major festival sets worldwide, Mid Air has resonated deeply with fans across the globe.
Since the album’s release, Romy has shared a run of high-profile collaborations including ‘I’m On Your Team’ with Sampha, ‘Always Forever’ (a reimagining of Donna Lewis’ classic, with a video by Aftersun director Charlotte Wells), ‘Lift You Up’ with Jessie Ware, and ‘Waited All Night’ alongside her xx bandmates Jamie xx and Oliver Sim.
In July, Romy released the Mid Air (Transcendence Remixes) EP – a bold, personally curated collection featuring Parisian producer Julie Desire, London DJ Luca Perry, and South London’s Angel D’lite. The EP follows acclaimed reworks by DJ HEARTSTRING, I. JORDAN, TDJ, Jayda G, Planningtorock, and Anz. To celebrate, Romy revived Club Mid Air with a special Transcendence fundraiser at London’s Dalston Superstore, raising funds for London Trans+ Pride and donating proceeds from a limited-edition Protect Trans Lives T-shirt and the EP to charities Not A Phase and Mermaids.
On the horizon, Romy has reunited with The xx in the studio, where the trio are currently working on new music.
PRAISE FOR MID AIR:
“Extraordinary… The work of an artist with a sincere appreciation for dance music and the skills to make her own galvanising bangers” – NME
“One of the most confident dance records of recent years” – The New Yorker
“A lightning bolt of queer bliss” – The I Newspaper
“One of the year’s best pop records” – The Wall Street Journal
“After a winning career as the lead singer of The xx, it should not come as a surprise that Romy Madley Croft’s debut album Mid Air is as good as it is. Yet it bears repeating that this electronica-suffused, trance-heavy new project sees the singer boldly taking herself into new territory.” – Billboard
“An eleven strong homage to an unforgettable era, but it’s Romy’s autobiographical candour that adds a depth beyond the record’s inarguable ecstasy” – DIY Magazine
“Romy Madley Croft emerges boldly and brightly, female pronouns everywhere, full tilt into piano driven house music in all its euphoric, bittersweet glory” – MOJO
“Euro-dance maximalist masterpiece” – them.
