Dance music maverick Skin On Skin has had a whirlwind few years. Bursting onto the global scene in 2022 with his undeniable club anthem ‘Burn Dem Bridges’ (“it sounds like the future” – Resident Advisor), the South Sudanese-Australian innovator has made his mark in all corners of the world through his full-throttle DJ sets – taking in impromptu b2bs in London with Skrillex and in Ibiza with Kettama, a Madrid takeover with Fred again.., a rapturously received night in Manchester at Overmono’s Warehouse Project, plus countless shows across Europe and East Asia. Now, he’s finally heading home.
Skin On Skin — ‘Let Me Say This’
Home Is True is a deeply personal mixtape tracing the emotional geography of an artist in perpetual motion. Released on his own Stay On Sight Recordings and centred around human experience, togetherness and meaningful connection, it finds Skin On Skin recalibrating and reconnecting with his true artistic values. Simultaneously raw and beautiful, the project blends bass-heavy club burners like ‘Let Me Say This’ with more introspective downtempo cuts such as ‘Love Is Ever’. With Skin On Skin solely writing, producing and performing every song on the mixtape – and also providing his own vocals on three tracks (‘أسرة (Family)’, ‘Where You Need To Be’, ‘Let Me Say This’) – it’s both a love letter to the cultures that shaped him and a revealing signpost to where he’s headed next.
The mixtape arrives just as Skin On Skin makes his long-awaited return to Australia for Spilt Milk festival – bringing the global journey full circle.
