Skux’s original riot grrrl inspired tracks from debut EP, The Two Sides of She topped NZ Alternative AirPlay charts, premiered globally on Vice’s Noisey channel and smashed it on Spotify’s top playlists; New Music Friday and Fresh Finds.
While working on new music for Skux’s upcoming EP, the opportunity to work with her old mates from her native Milwaukee became a possibility.
“We wanted to collaborate on a work after many years of supporting each others projects in the music scene, from our time together in New York to our travels of the world on tour. French Horn gave the track the flavour of our playful and quirky relationship; summer vibes forever, whether summer is here or not.” , says Skux.
Old friends, French Horn Rebellion are an electronic dance band formed in 2007 by Wisconsin-bred brothers Robert Perlick-Molinari and David Perlick Molinari.
Robert is a classically trained French horn player, who decided to start playing dance music while still attending the Bienen School of Music because he didn’t feel like he fit into the rigid world of classical music and with his brother, David, has released two albums and an Ep. Their unique sound leading to David producing and engineering MGMT‘s 2005 Time To Pretend EP. They’ve also remixed the likes of Beyoncé and worked with JD Samson and Jody Watley amongst a slew of impressive touring partners including Hot Chip, Blondie and The Drums.
The result of the collaboration by friends who now live thousands of miles apart (Skux in New Zealand and French Horn in New York) is a new punk/dance track that resonates with vibes of Men At Work’s “Down Under” and the remnants of Of Montreal.
Skux is the alter ego of Ayisha Jaffer who has managed, produced and overseen a considerable number of notable artists and bands over the last 14 years in the global music industry, working for international companies including Universal Music, The Windish Agency, Punkdafunk Management, and most recently Saiko Management, working as part of Lorde’s management team. Jaffer has worked with Lorde, Cut Copy, Thomston, Architecture in Helinski, Free Energy, and many more, as well as having gone on the road with artists such as Marlon Williams, Courtney Barnett and Thomston.
