Following the release of “Boys (I Dated In High School)” and “Suicide Hotline” (described by NPR as “commendable and empowering”), today Rough Trade’s latest signing The Prettiots have shared their new single “Stabler”. The track is an ode to Elliot Stabler, the detective with a heart of gold from NBC’s Law & Order series and a wistful examination of idealism in romantic relationships. The Prettiots’ frontwoman Kay Kasparhauser says:
”Elliot Stabler is definitely my type. A strong, dominant man with a love for justice and doing the right thing, an unpredictable temper, a strong sense of family values and some good tattoos. He doesn’t necessarily play by the rules but he always gets the job done. “

NYC’s The Prettiots are Kay Kasparhauser and Lulu Prat. While they’ve been playing shows and writing songs together for over a year – all the while earning press fans like NPR, Nylon, Rookie, Noisey, and the New York Times – their first official release, a 7” single for ‘Suicide Hotline’, was released this June via Rough Trade Records. The Prettiots’ songs tackle issues of teen insecurity, relationships and boys, and at times they feel like a modern twist on the Shangri La’s template. As Kasparhauser explained in a Rookie Magazine interview earlier this year, “My lyrics are completely honest…they’re 100% true to my thoughts at any given moment. I like to talk about Werner Herzog and sex.” In that same interview, she admitted to musical influences as wide-ranging as Eyehategod, Lightning Bolt, and ABBA; the latter might be a little easier to glean from the music of The Prettiots, though they’ve been known to cover The Misfits and System Of A Down live.
