The xx – Short Biography (2025)
The xx – Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith – formed in London in 2005. Their debut album xx (2009) reached number three in the UK and won the Mercury Music Prize, while its follow-up Coexist (2012) topped the UK chart and continued their global success. Together, the two albums have sold more than four million copies worldwide.
In 2017, the band returned with I See You, a bold and expansive evolution recorded across New York, Texas, Reykjavík, Los Angeles and London. It debuted at number one in the UK and number two in the US.
All three members have since developed acclaimed solo careers: Jamie xx with his GRAMMY- and Mercury-shortlisted albums In Colour (2015) and In Waves (2024); Oliver Sim with Hideous Bastard (2022); and Romy with her celebrated debut Mid Air (2023), which earned BRIT and GRAMMY nominations.
In 2025, The xx announced their reunion to begin work on a fourth studio album and confirmed major live performances at Coachella and Primavera Sound in 2026.
