Unknown Mortal Orchestra release their new album, IC-02 Bogotá, via Jagjaguwar. Also shared is the video for ‘Heaven 7′.
Like previous single/video ‘Earth 1′, the video for ‘Heaven 7’ is comprised of footage shot by Ruban Nielson in Bogotá during recording. Videos for tracks ‘Earth 2′ and ‘Earth 3′ are also available today, having previously been exclusive to subscribers of the UMO mailing list.
IC-02 Bogotá is the latest in the instrumental IC series, following 2018’s IC-01 Hanoi, and comes after V, UMO’s fifth studio album released March 17th, 2023.
In addition to the vocal-based records the band is most known for, the IC series documents time spent in a chosen city while improvising and collaborating on non-vocal instrumental music. Recently, the band spent time in Colombia in order to initiate their new keyboard player, Christian Li, with the resulting sessions at Estudio Naranja becoming IC-02 Bogotá.
Like with IC-01 Hanoi, the album is a musical document, taking its title from the place it was created, and is ‘possible background music for some strange parties and night drives in your future’.

Praise for IC-01 Hanoi:
“Joined by his brother, father, and the Vietnamese musician Minh Nguyen, Ruban Nielson throws off his habitually weighty themes and digs into a refreshingly raw, heady session of psychedelic rock.” – Pitchfork
“Alternately visceral and cerebral, and building with a whole new set of tools, UMO’s second release this year feels like a band bursting from their bubble; saying plenty about both Nielson’s fevered creativity, and the future of his cherished project.” – Line of Best Fit
Praise for V:
“…this has the feel of a magnum opus, unrelentingly ambitious with just the right amount of self-indulgence.” – NME
“…there are big, ripe melodies that burst with bittersweet juice and are arguably among the best Nielson has ever written.” – Pitchfork
“A creative, absorbing double album…” – Clash
“…unquestionably their best so far.” – Loud & Quiet
“Full of carefully crafted, pleasingly askew songs.” – Uncut
