WOMAD remains a place to bring artists together from all over the globe to break down barriers, educate, inform and inspire. Through this they allow audiences to gain insight into cultures other than their own.

“Creating awareness of the worth and potential of a multicultural society has always been a core attention of WOMAD, that ethos is more important than ever… At a time when the world seems to be becoming less tolerant and more fearful, WOMAD has never been a stronger as a force promoting the arts and intercultural understanding”.
– Chris Smith (WOMAD, UK Events & Operations Director)

“The festival’s mantra of diversity, inclusion and tolerance were a welcome antidote to the heart-wrenching updates that punctured the bubble on Friday. So instead of crying and raging (though sometimes as well as), we danced and sung, embraced friends and loved ones and celebrated life in all its glorious colour and texture. WOMAD might be a bubble, but it’s a beautiful one.”
– The Spinoff

“And right before she sang the haunting ‘La Luna’, Hector (Las Cafeteras) called out to the crowd that the moon shines brightest on the darkest night. If ever there was a metaphor for WOMAD, this was it. What WOMAD does – unite, celebrate, shed light and love – shone more brilliantly than ever through New Zealand’s darkest hour.” – The 13th Floor

“WOMAD is a multicultural, all-ages celebration of the unifying forces of music and dance. The festival celebrates our differences and the ways in which we are all the same, and there is no other place I’d want to be right now.”  Kirsten Johnstone, RNZ.

“by the end of the first two days, WOMAD only proved that the festival is now more important than ever”  Radio13

Hon. Andrew Little opened the festival on Friday night by saying “Let us celebrate what WOMAD stands for – diversity, tolerance and love.”
