Wheels are turning to the dance floor as audio geeks DiCE work their electronic magic on the tune first released on our BAYS album.
“The initial inspiration for the track was FFD being in the UK – I was a 90’s raver traveling to (UK) venues like S.E.ONE, Brixton Academy & Sanctuary warehouse regularly. We drew inspiration from these memories of ‘back in the day’ to start with, then put our spin on things with a bit of analog synth and drum machine business to finish up” Dave from DiCE said. Following an incredible summer of sell-out shows on the first leg of the BAYS New Zealand Summer Tour, Fat Freddy’s Drop are getting ready to hit the road again. This time, they will be joined by the innovative blues and roots group, The Nudge.
The Nudge is a genre-bending blues/roots/experimental three-piece from Wellington, comprised of Ryan Prebble, James Coyle and Iraia Whakamoe. The band has been refining their eclectic sound since 2010, when the music took off as a solo project of songwriter-in-chief, Prebble. With the addition of Coyle and Whakamoe, The Nudge have added more psychedelic and experimental sounds to their repertoire, while exploring the cinematic side of music making. Musical juggernaut Fat Freddy’s Drop releasing Slings And Arrows,
the first single from a new album.
The single is the first to emerge from Freddy’s Bays studio jams in preparation for their biggest ever headline show. The sold out Alexandra Palace in London has a 10,000strong capacity and comes off the back of last year’s Blackbird album achieving an Impala Gold Sales Award in Europe. The show is a highlight in Freddy’s Slings And Arrows World Tour that includes the band’s Japan and Thailand debut shows and a return to Australia. Beat maker DJ Fitchie describes Slings And Arrows as, “musically the most reggae song we’ve ever made. We’ve gone back to our roots with a tough, conscious reggae tune that is classic Freddys.”

Slings And Arrows will be available on 7” as well as digital, dropping in New Zealand and Australia on 17th October followed by UK and Europe on 20th October. The as yet untitled new studio album is due for release in 2015.
